Ingredients

  • 1/2 Loaf Stale French stick **You can use any other type of crusty bread but it must be dried out.
  • 2 Medium Apples **I used Granny Smith for this recipe.
  • 1/2 Cup Walnuts, chopped
  • 1/4 Cup Salted Butter, melted
  • 5 Eggs, beaten
  • 2 Cups Milk, 2% preferable
  • 1/2 Cup Cream, 10% or higher
  • 3/4 Cups Turbinado Sugar **You can substitute with brown sugar.
  • 1 Tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 Tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
  • [Optional] Vanilla Ice Cream
  • [Optional] Caramel Sauce

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F
  2. Spray a 2.5qt casserole dish with cooking spray.
  3. Chop up bread into 1-inch cubes. They don't have to be perfect! Add to casserole dish.

  6. In a medium bowl, mix together the remaining measured ingredients with a fork until well combined.
  7. Pour wet mixture over the dry ingredients in the casserole dish. Ensure all the bread is wet but it's okay if the tips are sticking out of the wet mixture once you've mixed it all together.

  8. Place your casserole dish on a lined cookie sheet to catch any possible drips.
  9. Bake for 45mins or until the bread springs back when you press the middle.
