Today I’m sharing 5 simple beauty tips to help you feel like your best self, from the inside out.

I am not a beautician. I am not a health or exercise expert. I am not an authority on health care products. What I am is a woman over 40 who has learned to love the person she is. Every woman deserves that.

As we get older, it can sometimes become more difficult to look in the mirror and see our own beauty. But we are all dazzling and we have the experience within us to mirror that self-love for all the world to see! These 5 simple tips are here as a reminder that You. Are. Gorgeous.

Beauty Tips #1: A Little Goes a Long Way

There seems to be a long held myth that the older you get, the more makeup you need. I say this is horrible advice and the opposite is actually true. As our skin ages and wrinkles form, heavy makeup will enhance rather than hide imperfections.

Instead of putting on more, try less and work it in. Don’t use your fingertips as this doesn’t actually help spread product but instead makes it uneven and greasy. Using a flat-head brush and just a pea-sized amount of product, spread evenly over your skin.

Here are two products that I can’t live without.

Beauty Tips #2: Gut Health

I recently had a conversation with a friend and we lamented that, in our 30s, it was super easy to lose a few pounds simply by cutting out certain foods. That gets harder with age and women tend to naturally gain weight around the menopause transition. While a few extra pounds are likely, it’s not inevitable.

The best thing you can do for your body is to keep it healthy. Being active and eating well is within your power to do.

The food we eat is processed in our gut. In order to keep that gut healthy, you need to have healthy bacteria and immune cells that ward off infectious agents like bad bacteria, viruses and fungi. There are a ton of foods to avoid to help keep your gut in top form, in addition to good sleep and an active lifestyle.

Beauty Tips #3: Plump it Up

Most people never guess that I’m 49 and that has a lot to do with the fact that I have a rounder face. That keeps the wrinkles at bay but it has a lot to say about the power of plump skin. This doesn’t mean you have to run out for botox or fillers to achieve that look (that’s a personal choice) because this can be achieved naturally or with product. Personally, I also consider this a benefit to gaining a few pounds as we get older.

I like to use products that contain Hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C. Here are 9 products to get you started or you can ask your local pharmacy. Beauty Tips #5: Confidence!

This last tip sounds obvious but it’s always amazed me how easy it is to forget. We’ve lived a life ladies!! Own it. Love it. Share it!

It’s really easy to say that we shouldn’t compare ourselves to others but the reality is, that happens all too often. Try to think of all the amazing things you have to offer and remember that you have it within you to be your best self.

When you find yourself thinking negative thoughts, turn them on their tail. What’s the opposite and how does that apply to you? Try not to listen to your own self-limiting beliefs and instead consider how you’ve grown from and probably even surpassed the roadblocks in your past. You are strong!

Beauty that comes from your mind is a superpower NO ONE can take away from you.
