The pandemic has taught me many lessons and one of those has been to support local businesses. I’ve always tried my best to feature Canadian brands on my Instagram but I wanted to do a better job bringing more great content here on the blog, from the great North. Today, we’re meeting designer Hilary MacMillan.
I’d like to introduce you to my new series: Canadian Showcase! With this series, the goal is to feature Canadian brands and all the great products or services they have to offer. It may be cold here, but we definitely deliver the goods, eh?
Recently, I was invited to preview the new Fall 2020 collection from fashion designer Hilary MacMillan. I gotta say, I was blown away. Not only by her incredibly stylish and real-world designs but also by her philanthropic efforts… More on that below. But first, let’s learn a bit more about the collection and take a look at some of my favourite pieces.
About the Hilary MacMillan Fall 2020 Collection
The first thing that caught my attention about the Hilary MacMillan brand is that it’s cruelty free and size-inclusive (sizes 2-28/XS-4X), which gives it an A+ in my books. The Fall 2020 collection is colour-rich with lots of texture, inspired by the best part of 1970s style but with contemporary cuts that are suitable for today’s modern fashionista.
Being a 70s girl myself, this collection made me feel right at home and nostalgic. I wish I could talk about it all day but alas, I’m only highlighting my absolute favourites in this post. But please don’t let that stop you from checking out the entire Hilary MacMillan Fall 2020 collection.
Coats by Hilary MacMillan
As a Canadian girl who spends at least nine months a year freezing her *ss off, I’m a big fan of outerwear. In this regard, Hilary does not disappoint and continues to focus on her mainstay category. Her designs cover the gamut of styles and length, ensuring you’ll fall in love with multiple designs. I haven’t decided on my favourite yet but these are my top picks.

Corduroy screams 70s to me and I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I saw the Corduroy Trench, which is a classic style every girl should have in her wardrobe. The Cord Bomber Jacket is a more casual take that goes with everything and the Faux Leather Maroon Trench is a statement piece that will get all your friends talking.
Pants & Skirts
Do you ever feel like it’s your life’s mission to find the perfect pair of pants? For me, that means high-waisted and whenever I see double-buttons, I almost immediately fall in love. Such was the case with Cord Double Button Fly Pants that would pair perfectly with the coats and the Cord Mini Skirt is absolutely a good option for a night out! I also adore the Maroon Pencil Skirt and “Snakeskin” Pencil Skirt, both of which can easily go from a day in the office to a night out with friends (in your social bubble, obviously).

The Hilary MacMillan Signature Varsity Collection
I mentioned that I appreciate designers who give back and here we have a collection that does just that. Hilary will donate 15% of the Varsity Jacket proceeds to Up With Women and 100% from each Equal Pay jacket sold to Black Women In Motion. You can’t feel guilty about getting one of these fun, sporty jackets! Whatever style you pick, they would look just as good with a sexy Pleated Dress as with a cute Faux Leather Mini Skirt or Jumpsuit. The Varsity jacket certainly is versatile! Best part? They are available in kid’s FEMINIST and GRL PWR sizes!!

You can make an appointment to shop at the Hilary MacMillan Studio in Toronto or check out the website for some online shopping where you get free shipping over $75.
